A decent menage a trois for only $11?

I admit it. I was sucked in by the marketing for this bottle of wine. Damn those wiley advertising madmen.

I mean, who wouldn’t buy a ménage a trios for only $11?

Focus please.

I am talking about the 2008 Felie a Deux winery Menage a Trois California Red Wine.

The bottle slowly draws you in, as it invites you to “surrender to the seduction of dark, rich berry with a hint of pepper, a lush lingering finish leaving you wishing for more”. Unfortunately, the best thing about this wine is the marketing. The Napa Valley blend of Cabernet, Zinfandel and Merlot completely fails to tantalize even the most basic of wine drinking pleasures. Right out of the bottle, the 2008 tasted more like Welch’s Grape Juice than a Napa Valley blend.

As the winemaker rightly notes, it does leave you with a “lingering finish” – unfortunately that finish is akin to what my wife described as something “that makes your mouth pucker in a gross way.” I picked this bottle up during the Safeway 30% off wine sale for $11 and you can find it online and elsewhere for as low as $9. Save your cash, this ménage disappoints on so many levels.
